The Life

Nesa Nayanar (Sivanesa) was a weaver, born at Kampili and later settled in Koorai Nadu, in the region of present-day Mayiladuthurai. Though not wealthy, his heart was always absorbed in remembering his patron god Shiva. He wove cloth, cut-pieces and koupinams (loin-cloths), and out of pure love generously gave these clothes to the devotees of Shiva, seeing the Lord Himself in His servants. This humble, tireless service of clothing the devotees became his path of devotion, and through it, unwavering in his love, he attained the grace of Shiva and reached His feet. Sekkizhar records his life among the sixty-three Nayanmars. Weavers of Koorai Nadu especially venerate him. His guru puja is observed in the month of Panguni under the star Rohini.
