The Life
Naminandi Adigal was a Brahmin devotee of Emapperur, near Tiruvarur, wholly devoted to Shiva at the great Thyagaraja (Araneri) temple. Wishing to light lamps in the temple, he went to a nearby house to beg ghee, but it was a Jain household; they mockingly told him that if he was so eager he could fill his lamps with the water of the temple tank. Grieved, he prayed to the Lord, and a divine voice bade him do exactly that, bring water from the sacred tank and pour it into the lamps. He did so, and the lamps blazed brightly through the night until dawn. This miracle of lighting lamps with water is carved in relief at the Airavatesvara temple, Darasuram. Through his faith he attained Shiva's grace. His guru puja falls in Vaikasi under Pusam.
