The Life
Enadinatha Nayanar of Eyinanur, on the banks of the Arisil, was a master swordsman who trained the land's warriors and used his wealth to serve Shiva's devotees. A jealous rival, Atisuran, was repeatedly defeated by him and devised a treachery. Meeting Enadinatha for a duel, Atisuran smeared his forehead with the sacred ash (Tripundra) and matted his hair like a Saiva, hiding it behind his shield. When in combat the shield dropped and Enadinatha saw the holy ash, he refused to strike one bearing the marks of Shiva, and lowered his sword though it cost him his life. The cowardly Atisuran cut him down, but Shiva received Enadinatha into His grace for revering the sacred symbol above his own survival.
