The Life
Appudi Adigal was a devout Brahmin of Thingalur who so revered the saint Appar, though he had never met him, that he took Appar as his guru and named everything after him: the water-sheds and rest-houses he built for pilgrims, the ponds he dug, even his own sons. One day Appar himself, passing through Thingalur, saw water-pandals bearing the name "Thirunavukkarasu" and, astonished, sought out Appudi. Overjoyed to meet his guru at last, Appudi invited him to dine. As his eldest son fetched a plantain leaf, he was bitten by a snake and died; yet the family concealed their grief so as not to disturb Appar's meal. Learning of it, Appar sang a hymn and restored the boy to life. Appudi attained Shiva's grace. His guru puja is in Thai under Chathayam.
